When You Need to Leave Baby with Someone Else…
Going back to work is something that will happen sooner or later after you have spend some months on giving birth and taking care of your new born. When you get back to work, you would have to leave your baby with someone else, perhaps your relatives, friends, or your mother. Since your husband might also be working, he cannot be the one to do the job. The good thing is that we can always find someone willing to take care of our little one while we are away at work. It is good to have someone take care of your baby when you are not there, but the baby can suffer from separation anxiety from your absence.
There are ways how you can help your baby get over separation anxiety, and they are given here below.
Don’t leave your baby to someone who is a stranger to him. A familiar face can lessen the separation anxiety of a child. If you leave him with a relative or a friend, it should not be much of a problem. Leaving him with a babysitter is like leaving him with a stranger. This can be solved by letting the babysitter visit when you and your husband are both home. In this way, the babysitter will no longer be a stranger to your baby.
Something that can comfort the baby can be left with him when you go. A blanker or a t-shirt with his scent can be a source of comfort. With a favorite soft toy, the baby can be comforted. You can also buy baby muslin wraps that can help the baby relax when they are wrapped in them. If necessary, the baby sitter should be ready with the items that she can use to comfort your baby. They can sleep quicker if the item is placed beside them in their cot.
If you are going to leave them in another home, get them time to adjust and be comfortable in the place. Don’t go out immediately but stay for about a half hour before going. With this, they will get to know the people who will be staying with them.
It will not do any good if you sneak away when the baby is not looking. If you are going away don’t ever forget to say good bye and let your baby know that you are about to leave. Your baby will definitely be anxious when all of a sudden he realizes that you are no longer in the room.
It might take a while before your baby come overcome separation anxiety so it pays to be patient with your child. If you try these tips, then it can help you feel a lot more relaxed when the baby is left at home with someone else.
